Dr John Vrazas has played a leading role in the pioneering development of many minimally invasive surgical image guided procedures across a range of medical and surgical specialties in adults and children. Some noteworthy examples include:

  • The clinical evaluation and management of patients requiring percutaneous interventions
  • Investigation and treatment of deep venous thrombosis with venous thrombolysis and stenting
  • Pioneering colorectal and oesophageal stenting procedures for cancer of colon and oesophagus
  • Pioneering and refining techniques in central venous access including techniques for hemodialysis
  • Investigating and refining renovascular stenting procedures for renal artery stenosis and occlusion
  • Pioneering interventional procedures in children; Dr Vrazas performed the first TIPS in a child in the Southern Hemisphere
  • Developing uterine artery embolisation for women with fibroids and arteriovenous malformations
  • Establishing intracranial stenting and coiling of cerebral aneurysms at St Vincents Hospital
